Gunning Solar Farm

The Gunning Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a large-scale renewable energy generation and storage project located in New South Wales, Australia.

The project is designed to strengthen the region’s clean energy supply by delivering utility-scale solar generation supported by integrated battery energy storage. Once operational, it will contribute to a more sustainable, reliable, and resilient energy network across New South Wales.

The Gunning Solar Farm project has involved consultation with the local community, including nearby landowners, Upper Lachlan Shire Council, and other key stakeholders. Feedback received during the planning process has been considered in the project design to minimise potential impacts and ensure the development aligns with the surrounding area.

The project is expected to provide benefits to the local community, including employment opportunities during construction and the use of local contractors and services where possible. A community benefit fund is anticipated to be established to support local initiatives, with ongoing engagement to continue throughout the life of the project.

Key Features:

Capacity

The project will deliver a 275 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) array, paired with a 120 MW / 480 MWh BESS.

Location

The project is situated in Lade Vale within the Upper Lachlan Shire Council Local Government Area (LGA), approximately 30 kilometres east of Yass in regional New South Wales. The location has been strategically selected to support efficient grid connection and optimal solar generation conditions.

Grid Connection

The development will connect directly to an existing 330 kV Transgrid transmission line that traverses the site.

Current Status & Timeline

The Gunning Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) has received development consent from the NSW Government and is currently in the post-approval phase, progressing through detailed design, procurement and pre-construction activities. Construction is anticipated to commence in mid-2026. Upon completion, the project is forecasted to become operational mid-2028.
